Dr. Thida Win

Rector

Dr. Thida Win was born in Meikhtila, a historic town in central Myanmar. She graduated from University of Mandalay with B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1983 and achieved M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry in 1989. Whilst working as a demonstrator at Department of Chemistry, University of Mandalay she won a Scholarship Award from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) in 1995, which enabled her to pursue her study at Carl Von Ossietzky Oldenburg University, Germany and obtain her doctorate in 2000. Shortly after her resuming work at Mandalay University she was offered post-doctoral fellowship at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel for two and a half years, supported by UNESCO-ISRAEL Fellowship Programme. On completion of her fellowship in 2005, Thida returned to Mandalay University as a Junior Professor of Chemistry and started involving in post-graduate teaching. She served as an academic supervisor in the Ph.D. Programme and the M.Res. Programme at University of Mandalay as well as teaching Professor between 2005 and 2009. She has published nine papers in International Journals in the areas of Synthesis Organic Chemistry and Natural Product Chemistry, particularly Natural Plant Products. She has successfully supervised over 25 Ph.D. students and recently appointed as a member of Ph.D. Steering Committee at University of Mandalay. In 2009 she was promoted to Pro-rector at University of Kyaukse where she worked for five years. She has become Acting rector at Mandalay University which is the largest University in Upper Myanmar since  August 2015.
Thida has also participated in a number of International Conferences, and presented diverse subject matters on Analytical Chemistry, Organic Synthesis Chemistry and Natural Product Chemistry.
